An eccentric pale ale with deep fruity flavour. Brewed using Nelson Sauvin hops, it has hints of grapefruit, and is extremely quaffabe. It is SIBA awarded a Silver for the East in 2011.
Click on SIBA link below for more info on the Award. The beer is named after George “Tornado” Smith, who entertained crowds in the 1930s by performing the gravity-defying wall of death stunt – firstly with his wife “Dynamite” Doris Craven and latterly a 12-stone lioness called Briton, who rode in the sidecar. He used to live in Boxford, just 2miles away and opposite our 16th Century Inn, The Fleece Hotel, which sells Tornado Smith Eccentric Pale Ale permanently. Tornado seemed an unlikely hero in his brown riding boots, grey trousers, white shirt and tie, plus a black beret complete with a skull and crossbones badge and tortoiseshell glasses. Yet he rode his Indian Scout 7-9hp Vee-Twin around the wall and was the pioneer of the "Loop of Death". Link We like to think his charisma and likeability is apparent in this beer, rightly dedicated to him. |
